in the beginning

In the Beginning Was the Word

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1

I kept hearing that in my dream last night. Just recently when I was reading the Bible, I had gone through and highlighted different verses talking about God’s Word.

John 1:4

John 17:17

Psalms 119:105

Hebrews 4:12

Proverbs 30:5

Isaiah 40:8

His Word will never fail us. He will never forsake us or abandon us. He loves us so much.

The specific verse in John 1:1 is telling us that Jesus is referred to as the “Word.” Jesus was there in the beginning, and Jesus was with God. And Jesus was God.

There is power in God’s words. God created the earth by speaking it into existence. He breathed life into it and created this world by speaking His word over it.

Death and Life are in the Power of the Tongue

Proverbs 18:21

Death and Life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.

There is life and death in the power of the tongue. Meaning; we have the same power inside of us that God used to create the existence of this world. If we have that same power, then what we say out of our mouths matters more than we think. Words mean so much more. We can build up, or we can tear apart. We have that power, and we need to believe in that power, and in God’s word.

The devil doesn’t want you to believe that you have that capability. And he fears the day that you discover it and realize it. The devil comes to lie, steal, kill and destroy. There is so much deceit running rampant in our world right now. That is why it’s so important to always be IN God’s word. Reading it, soaking it in, renewing your mind with it, so you have better understanding not only of God’s character, but of the ways that He created for us to love, and carry out His purpose for us.

Instruction Book

The Bible (God’s Word) is an instruction book for life. It is His love letter to us. He gave us everything that we need to lead a prosperous life. We just need to read it, understand it, live by it, and apply it to our own lives. The more we read His word, the greater our desire is to walk in His ways. I know, sometimes reading it might seem difficult, and there can definitely be lack of understanding, but all you need to do is ask God to help you understand better, and He will help you. He will do so by giving you revelations of what something means, or will lead you to resources or others to help better grasp what He wants you to know.

Psalms 119:105

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”

Many have said and still do say that the Bible isn’t meant for our time. And that these things aren’t meant for today and today’s world. That is a lie from the pits of hell.

The Word is our Living Water

The Word is alive. It is our living water. Jesus is alive. He is our living water. We need to be renewing our minds with His word every single day. This also helps us to discern the lies of the devil and come against him with God’s word, along with His strength, power and courage that He gives us freely.

The Bible Does Apply to Today’s World

Everything in this book applies to today, with things going on in the world, and personally with you. Although, the stories in the Bible might be about others, but we are just like the “others.” Yes, we are living in different times, things look much different physically than they did in the times of the Bible. But spiritually, everything is the same. There is nothing new under the sun. History repeats itself, just different characters, different storylines. It is indeed the same God that is spoken about in the Bible. He is the same God today and forever. He will never ever change. His word will never change.

There is always something new you will learn. Whether you have read the Bible cover to cover five times over, or just starting out, there will always be new revelation given to you. Things you may not have understood fully before, God is giving you that particular understanding now. You may not have been ready to fully understand what you read the first time. God knows when you are ready or need to know or understand something more, based on you and your personal life circumstances.

God is a Good Father

He is a good Father and wants to teach us and guide us, and keep us on the right path. The more you read His word, ask for wisdom and understanding, pray to Him daily, the closer you become to Him. The ultimate goal is a relationship with God. He desires that from us. He wants us to have a relationship with Him to become closer to Him. When you focus more on God, life starts to come more into focus for you. The more things start to come into focus, the more the things fall away from your life that don’t really matter. God will show you things that you never expected or imagined. He will show you the truth.

The Enemy Likes to Distract

There are things we have been taught in this world that we have been lied to about. The enemy of this world wants to keep us in the dark and away from our purpose and destiny. He wants us distracted with meaningless things that will be of no benefit to us. There is a quote that says: “Give them bread and circuses and the people will never revolt.” This had to do with the Roman government building elaborate stadiums to distract the people from their failing empire, and other abuses that were going on in the system that they wanted to keep hidden from the people.

If you look at the world today, the same thing is happening. What kind of elaborate stadiums do we have? Football stadiums, baseball stadiums, giant music stadiums, etc. Look at these stadiums. Can you imagine if this amount of people piled into stadiums like this to worship Jesus? Our world would look so much differently.

People flock to professional sports games and concerts, watching tv, playing video games; staying “entertained” and completely distracted from reality and what is really going on around them. The root word in entertainment is enter. The enemy gains entry through entertainment. You must be mindful of what you are watching and listening to and what you are being “entertained” by. You will be granting the enemy access to you. I don’t know about you, but I definitely don’t want to give the enemy any access.

All of these famous “stars” and sports players. Do they really deserve all of this attention from you? Are they the key to getting you into the Kingdom of God? Our end goal is God’s Kingdom and living in eternal life with Him. We have one shot at this in our lifetime. One shot. Don’t waste it. We can’t change our destiny at the end of our life when we are no longer physically on this plane. You do not want to be separated from God. What we choose to do now matters.

Enter Through the Narrow Gate

Matthew 7:13-14

Enter through the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the road broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who go through it. How narrow is the gate and difficult the road that leads to life, and few find it.

If you are being distracted by things that are not lifting you up, not making you stronger in your faith, or not leading you to Jesus, then you are right where the enemy wants you. Fight that, and get in God’s word, and let Him lead you and guide you to your ultimate purpose and life that He has created for you. We need to stop idolizing these people and things that are meaningless and leading us to destruction, and start looking to what really matters.

That is Jesus. Jesus is what matters. Relationship with Him is what matters.

John 14:6

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Jesus is THE WAY.

How to Get Closer to God Through Reading His Word

God is a good loving Father, and wants to give us good things. He wants us to be happy. But we must also be obedient, and we must be in His word daily. We must consistently set aside time to pray to Him, read the Bible, and establish that relationship with Him that he SO desires with us.

Try to get yourself up a little bit earlier in the morning, and start your day with Him. You will notice such a difference in how your day goes, or how you seem to handle things that come your way. Prioritize Him. He is your number one. He is what matters. What He says about YOU matters. Get to know Him and His ways. His love for you is never-ending, His word never fails, His word will never forsake you, His word is alive and will take you from death to life. God’s word was there at the beginning, and is everlasting. Jesus was there at the beginning and He is everlasting.

If you have an extra minute, go back through and re-read this post, and wherever you see “word” put Jesus in there. Jesus was and is always there.

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
