speak words of life

Speak words of life, encourage, faith

Jesus spoke words of life over Himself. Words of life were spoken over the creation of this world. We are created and meant to do the same. We must learn to speak words of life. God made us in His image. We are who God says we are, and not what other people think we are. We must learn to bring ourselves to this mindset that we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and there was NO mistake in HOW we were created. God has a purpose for everything. The very things that you may think are a downfall, could be the very things that He wants to use you for.

Genesis 1:27

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

God created man in HIS own image. Learn to speak words of life.

Be Rooted in Christ

When the enemy knows that you have a certain calling on your life, he will try and get in your head and start attacking the very things that God had created you for. He will use tactics to distract you, to hurt you, to fall away from God and blame Him for the things that he (the enemy) caused. He wants you so far away from God and believing the lies he puts in your head, so you won’t even have a chance at doing what it is that God called you to do. The enemy does not want you knowing who you are, and he fears the day you find out. The higher the calling, the more attacks that come.

It is extremely important that we are to be rooted in Christ, especially our identity in Him. We must know who we are in Him, so when the attacks do happen, we are able to recognize them, and cut them off as soon as they start to become apparent.

Identity in Christ

Identity is something that I have struggled with, and God has really been working with me on this. We need to know WHO we are in Christ. I have been reminded many times by Him of who I am. God has even given me memories from back when I was very small, and He showed me that I knew exactly who I was at that time. I STILL have that identity; I just lost the knowing along the way because the world had a firm grasp on me.

What God Showed Me

The Lord showed me, when I was around five years old, I was out with my mother and we were walking in the mall. I was holding her hand, and as we were walking, there was a group of kids coming towards us, maybe middle school or high school age.  As we were passing by, I looked at them, and I noticed they were staring at me, pointing and laughing at me. I didn’t understand why they were doing that, because it seemed so mean. At that moment, I said to myself, “Don’t they know who I am?” Meaning, that I am a daughter of the Most High God, and my Father is the King of Heaven.

God had revealed to me that I fully knew WHO I was at that time. What my identity was in Him. I was secure in knowing at just five years old. We need to walk in that same confidence, just as I did at such a young age. It has not been easy; it is a daily process. However, when we have God on our side, and for us, He will continually walk us through what we are feeling or going through, and remind us of who we are, and to speak words of life over ourselves.

Abide in Christ

YOU still have that identity that HE gave you as well. It only matters what God says you are. He is the only one that can define you. Do not follow what the world thinks you should be. The world is lost. Without God we are lost. Keep close to Him and abide in Him, and He will correct the way you think. It doesn’t mean we won’t ever be tempted with these false thoughts again, because the enemy will always try to get in our ear. However, once we know who we are, we will be able to recognize when the enemy is trying to pull us down.

In knowing our identity in Christ, we will be more capable of handling those thoughts, taking them captive, and placing them at the Lord’s feet. But first, we must know WHO Jesus is, in order to know who we are in Him. We get to know Him by continuously reading His word, being in prayer, and establishing a relationship with Him.

Exodus 3:14

God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.”

Jesus spoke seven I AM statements over himself in the book of John which reveals WHO He is, His power, and His purpose.

  • John 6:35 I am the bread of life.
  • John 8:12 I am the light of the world.
  • John 10:9 I am the gate.
  • John 10:11 I am the good shepherd.
  • John 11:25 I am the resurrection and the life.
  • John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life.
  • John 15:1 I am the true vine.

Jesus speaks life over Himself and over us.

Yahweh means I AM

Jesus = I AM THAT I AM = GOD

Learn to Speak Words of Life

If Jesus spoke all of these things over Himself, we must learn to speak words of life over ourselves and others. These “I am” statements are all positive and lead to life. When we start speaking life over ourselves daily, our mindset begins to change. We start believing this is who we are. We grow more spiritually, and become even closer to Christ. These are the things that God speaks over us as Christians.

Plant Study

There was a study that someone had done on plants. Seeds of the same kind were planted in two different pots, and were kept separate from each other. Each day, the person doing this study would water the plants, and at the same time speak over them. The first pot, words of life and encouragement are spoken over the seeds. The second pot, words of discouragement and death are spoken over them.

After weeks of doing this study, the seeds that life were spoken over, were growing and flourishing and looked healthy. The seeds that death and discouragement were spoken over, it would grow slowly, but it looked extremely unhealthy, had wilted leaves, and looked like it wouldn’t live. Just by this study alone, it shows how much it matters what it is you speak, and how you speak it over God’s living creation. Even though plants were not created in God’s image, He still created them and gave them life. Just as He speaks life over us, He expects us to do the same with ourselves and others. Speak words of life.

Proverbs 18:21

Death and Life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. https://thelioninspires.com/beginning-faith/

I have compiled a list of 20 “I am” statements as Christians to speak over yourself daily. I have also referenced scripture to back up these statements.  In doing this, it will help change your thinking, and understanding, and allow for spiritual growth and more transformation.

TWENTY POWERFUL “I AM” STATEMENTS OF IDENTITY

  • I am a child of God 1John 3:1
  • I am loved Ephesians 3:19
  • I am protected Psalms 41:2
  • I am guided Psalms 32:8
  • I am provided for Philippians 4:19
  • I am healed 1Peter 2:24
  • I am abundant 2Corinthinans 9:8
  • I am full of light Matthew 6:22
  • I am courageous Joshua 1:9
  • I am beautiful 1 Peter 3:3-4
  • I am fearfully and wonderfully made Psalms 139:40
  • I am appointed to my destiny John 15:16
  • I am qualified 2Corinthians 3:5

  • I am chosen Ephesians 1:4
  • I am forgiven Ephesians 4:32
  • I am new in Christ 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • I am known by God Psalms 139:1-24

This last statement, I have referenced the entire chapter. Just one selected verse would not do it justice. It is such a beautiful representation of how present God is with each of us, how well He knows us, and how His love for us is unmeasurable.

We must be vigilant about the words that we use and speak over ourselves. God spoke life into this world, and He breathed and spoke life into us. We are made in His image.

Remove the Negative

Why would we want to speak down about ourselves when Jesus speaks life? When we speak in a negative way about ourselves or over others, we are actually speaking negatively against God. When you look at yourself in the mirror, and if you have negative thoughts about yourself and the way you look, and you think or say that you are ugly, or that all of these things are wrong with you, the actuality is you are calling God those same names. You are saying that you don’t like how He created you, and that He made a mistake with you. We misrepresent God when we wear His name but not His character. If we are created in His image, and we are created like Him, there isn’t anything inferior or negative in Him, therefore we need to follow that same way of thinking.

Represent His Character

Speak words of life over yourself and others. You are so much more than the lies the enemy whispers into your ears. Go to Jesus, and ask Him to help you when you get the urge to think or speak negatively. He speaks life over you. He defines WHO you are. You are loved, you are beautiful, you are fearfully and wonderfully made, you have a purpose. You are created in HIS image. Let us represent His image, and His character, and be HIS children that HE has called us to be! Continue to read His word, and He will reveal even more to you. He gives us life.

John 10:10

"The thief’s purpose is to steal kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life."

There is a song called:

 “The Truth” by Megan Woods

It’s a newer song that recently came out. Her voice is extremely powerful, as are the lyrics to this song. When I first heard this, I thought it was so beautiful. This song can absolutely speak life into you. It has now become a favorite in my playlist. In addition to speaking words and scriptures over yourself, listening to worship music and singing is very powerful. It also can bring you closer to God. If you have not heard this song before, I highly encourage you to go listen to it. I know you will find it to be very inspirational, and a repeat on your playlist.

I pray that words I have spoken about in this post inspire you and give you encouragement. Submit to God, but Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
